Kindly provided by Pierre Bierre Search and Rescue... Your personal aircraft suffered a power failure, forcing you to emergency-land in the desert. “Where am I?” You recognize two mountain peaks with known map (x,y) coordinates: Peak1: (-100, 0) Peak2: (100, 0) From your vantage, the angle subtended by the two peaks is 49.000 degrees, with left-to-right order [ Peak2 …… Peak1 ]. You only have enough cell phone battery remaining to phone in this one clue: What is the curve that should be flown by a search and rescue chopper that will pass over your location? Provide the numerics to precisely define your curve.
Three circles and the lines PQ and QR touch as shown. The distance between the smallest and the biggest circles is 16 times the radius of the smallest circle. What is the size of angle PQR?
Kindly provided by UKMT Beatrix has a 24-hour digital clock on a glass table-top next to her desk. When she looked at the clock at 13:08, she noticed that the reflected display also read 13:08 (as shown above).
How many times in a 24-hour period do the display and its reflection give the same time? Kindly provided by UKMT This will be very satisfying once completed, but the solution might not be unique, so I will be interested in your answers and how you arrived at some of them. I have also attached a downloadable version of the grid and the clues for you to print. Enjoy! (By the way, if you send your solutions me via email, I will post them below the puzzle for everyone to compare).
Kindly provided by UKMT 'STRANGE' Primes...
A prime number is called 'strange' if either it is a one-digit prime, or if each of the numbers obtained by removing its first digit or its last digit are themselves strange primes. How many strange primes are there? Kindly provided by UKMT A rectangle is placed obliquely on top of an identical rectangle, as shown.
The area X of the overlapping region (shaded more darkly) is one eighth of the total shaded area. What fraction of the area of one rectangle is X? Kindly provided by UKMT What is the remainder when the above total is divided by 8? (no calculators please!)
